June edibles in the landscape

In each of the photos above there are edible plants. These plants are easy to spot in the last photograph because they appear in a traditional vegetable bed, but there are also tomatoes, squash and eggplant in the garden beds in the first two photographs.

This may seem strange at first, but wait for the first time a neighbor out for a walk asks you about the beautiful foliage on your eggplant, or comments on the vertical grown squash among your tall flowers. In addition to simply claiming space for these edible treats, a garden plan that intermixes perennials and edibles is healthier and often produces more fruit due to increased pollinator activity.

Rethink design.
