Strawberries and Onions, Blueberries

The top photo show the strawberry bed when it was first established, and the lower photo shows the bed in the fall with hay mulch.

I chose to use a row and mound system for the strawberries, which I had previously kept in strawberry pots. I did find some strawberry weevils and disposed of several plants when I transplanted the strawberries from the pots. I also then planted onions between each row to discourage future weevils. Strawberries are easy to start from runners and easy to find in the nursery each spring. I prefer to plant ever-bearing varieties for my family. These plants continually produce berries throughout the season for fresh eating. If you plan to jam or preserve you will want to plant varieties that produce all at one time.
