salad greens

One of my biggest successes this season has been a good 2-3 week salad box rotation. Every 2-3 weeks I start salad greens indoors in flats under the grown lights. I did try to direct seed once the weather changed, but the snails and squirrels feasted on the starts! We are big salad eaters and what has worked for me are long planter boxes with drain holes kept near the kitchen. I even started spinach this way and found the kids "sneaking" spinach and herbs in their morning eggs!

I plan to keep the rotation up and keep some boxes indoors and some in the cold frames to compare which works best. We have not bought produce in months - my husband brought home a bunch of scallions the other day and was promptly reprimanded for not puling some of the 200 leeks in the yard instead ;)

  1. Hi Kel - thanks for the comment! Let me know if you need anything, although you probably know more about ArcView than me at this point! It's nice to 'virtually' meeting you! Wish I could garden,... I kill plastic things,..
