month 7 - February 2008

And now the work begins . . .
During the Fall we removed trees and shrubs that were not planted in the right place, and established several beds using the lasgna method of composting. As Winter approached we mulched the beds to protect the newly transplanted perennials and give the soil a build up of organic material.

It was still looking pretty bare.
In the "nursery strips" perennials started to peak their heads up through the mulch in anticipation of Spring.
And we had a few surprises pop up in the form of bulbs from former owners.

The tease of clear weather had us anxious, but we knew it would be months before the soil was ready to begin work.
