Establishing Trees
We called Urban Forestry to approve and mark for planting a Ginko Bilboa "Autumn Gold" last fall. Whenever possible we try to plan for fall tree planting for root growth. This first year we only planted 1 tree. We have since identified additional trees and will plan to add them next fall.

More Lasagna Beds (sheet composting)
Here is a good look at a lasagna bed that will later be used for the blueberries and strawberries. You can see the grass clippings and leaves collected from the yard and spread over cardboard directly on the lawn.
The parking strips were both converted from lawn to planting beds using the lasagna method. We even added the Christmas tree to this bed.
Here, again, is a look at the lasagna layering with commercial compost layers. In areas where we had to remove sod we turned the sod over and covered it with newspaper to build up the beds. In most areas the sod was covered over without digging, using 10-12 sheets of newspaper or cardboard. Commercial organic compost was used for transplants.
Lots of fall leaves, we even asked the neighbors for their leaves! These beds were built over the lawn surrounding the tree and trailer pad.
